Well, we made it to 2009.
Farewell to a dismal 2008, for most of us. We're praying that 2009 is much, much better for us, our economy and the world in general.

Unemployment in these trying times.
As a recently unemployed person (for the first time in my life) in these crazy times is a little scary and exhilarating at the same time. I have been following GMA's job series and I'm really encouraged by the proof that companies are still hiring. Granted, they're not the lucrative manufacturing jobs we once had but they are jobs that will pay the bills.
I haven't done much looking yet as I'm really enjoying being home with my daughter. I look at this as the maternity leave I never got because she was still in the hospital when I returned to work after her birth.
In my opinion the only way to pull this economy out of the dump it's in is to get people working and spending what they earn. Jobs create jobs. This is one of the few issues that I 100% agree with Barack Obama on. If we cannot turn this around and quickly this country has nothing left. China will be watching infomercials on TV about the starving children in America in a few years if we allow it to continue.
The constant bail-outs of huge Banks and other landmark businesses are probably a necessary evil that we will have to pay for. I'm willing to pony up a few more tax dollars if it means the jobless will get jobs.
We Americans need to lose the arrogance we have as a society and realize that the roles are changing and have been for quite some time. (UAW TIME TO OPEN YOUR EYES and accept that the USA cannot support your crazy demands any more) I peronally own 4 American made cars and one Japanese car. Can I tell you which one is more reliable? It isn't the three Dodges, that's for sure!
So, good for the US Senate for insisting on lowering salaries of the UAW members in return for keeping the Big Three operating. The arrogance I referred to before, closed the only door remaining for the Big Three last night. Good Job UAW, instead of a reduced paycheck your members may end up with no paycheck instead. By all means insist on the $70 an hour wages but will you be able to squeeze them from a dry sponge? Probably not.
In the meantime, I will continue praying for our country and the people who hold the power to help us recover..
